One of the issues that can seem a bit worrying for many newcomers to WordPress is the Link You Followed Has Expired error message.

Luckily, this issue has a fix which is very easy to apply, and we will go through it in this article.

This usually occurs when a theme and/or a plugin is uploaded via the WordPress dashboard, and the reason behind this are low server php resources. Therefore, it’s a good idea to increase your php resources first, or ask your hosting provider to do the same in your behalf.

It’s also worth noting that you might be required to increase the php resources in order to successfully import the demo content as well. For a more detailed look into this matter, you can check the step 2 of the following article:

In certain situations however, the issue may persist even after increasing your server resources.

This is why we suggest uploading the theme via FTP, which can be done using one of the FTP clients, like FileZilla for instance.

The Steps:

Step 1 - The prerequisite when opting for this solution is having your FTP credentials. In case you don’t have them, please refer to your hosting provider about helping you with your FTP account.

Step 2- Download and install FileZilla from the link above.

Step 3- 3) Navigate to and locate your theme, then from the download button dropdown, select All files & documentation.

Step 4- Locate the zip in the folder you've downloaded from ThemeForest, and unzip it. In your case of course, theme_name will be replaced with the actual name of the theme you have purchased.

Step 6- Navigate to wp-content/themes/ and upload the theme_name folder (unzipped).

Note: we used a theme named Quart in our example.

Step 7- Make sure to login to your dashboard, using your WP admin credentials, navigate to Appearance > Themes, find the installed theme and activate it.

This way, you’ll have resolved the Link has expired issue.

Don’t hesitate to submit a ticket to our support center in case you need further assistance or if you lose your way while following any of these steps. Our support agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

Step 5- Open your FTP client (FileZilla, in this example), and login to the server using your FTP credentials.
